Businessman Clint Hickman, Maricopa County’s newest supervisor, was appointed last month to the five-member governing board of the fourth-most-populous U.S. county. He replaced Max Wilson, a longtime supervisor representing the West Valley’s District 4 who retired citing health reasons.
Hickman, 48, is vice president of sales and marketing — “the cleanest job on the ranch,” he says — for Hickman’s Family Farms, Arizona’s largest commercial egg
producer. Among his close friends is Gov. Jan Brewer, who once held the seat he has assumed.
Hickman was one of 17 candidates considered to fill the vacancy left by Wilson. It is the Goodyear Republican’s first venture into politics, though he has been appointed to and held leadership positions on various boards, including the Arizona Agriculture Advisory Council, the Arizona Meth Project and the Pacific Egg and Poultry Association.
He has a marketing degree from the University of Arizona. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three children, ages 2, 6 and 8.
Hickman is the third new supervisor to take office this year, joining Steve Chucri and Denny Barney. All are first-time politicians with business backgrounds.
The position pays $76,600 annually. District 4 includes Sun City, Sun City West, Litchfield Park, Surprise, El Mirage, Peoria and Wickenburg.
Hickman recently discussed his new duties with The Arizona Republic.
