This is what might be the last RLGR Gripe of the Week
A viewer of the Jodi Arias murder trial on CNN’s HLN network recently commented about RLG Founder and President Jordan Rose’s appearances as a courtside analyst. The viewer said Jordan is an intelligent woman, but needs to do something different with her hair.
Now it’s my turn.
Jordan staunchly defends the manner in which state prosecutor Juan Martinez strives to put Jodi away for a long time or permanently. Martinez has become some sort of a hero for those who would like to see Jodi fry. It’s obvious Jordan is convinced Arias is a liar and a violent killer.
This column is not to discuss the guilt or non-guilt (Only newborns and puppies are “innocent.”), but rather to gripe about the prancing, dancing, boorish, rude and abusive prosecutor.
And to praise Alyce LaViolette, the PhD-less-nevertheless- psychotherapist-defense-expert on domestic violence, who has worked with many abusive men in her practice.
Let’s go off “Pause” and click “Play” and go to the courtroom yesterday as Martinez goes over the top in trying to discredit LaViolette’s credentials.
Martinez noted LaViolette had given seminar presentations titled, “Was Snow White a Battered Woman?”
Shouting, he pressed her about how she came to the conclusion Snow White was abused, to which LaViolette replied he was mischaracterizing her presentation.
“She lived with the seven dwarves and according to the Disney version, she was pretty happy,” LaViolette said.
“She lived in a shack, right?” Martinez snapped.
Later in the exchange, LaViolette handled Martinez in the same way she would deal with an abusive husband in a therapy session.
“Mr. Martinez, are you angry at me?” LaViolette asked softly at one point. Portions of the gallery erupted in laughter, and the judge admonished spectators to keep quiet.
I stood in front of my TV and cheered LaViolette.
She had put the bully in his place, subtly indicating to the bench Martinez should be told to treat all witnesses with respect.
I’m surprised Martinez didn’t go after the Seven Dwarves too.
