Yuma police are recommending prosecutors pursue four misdemeanor charges against state Sen. Don Shooter, who heatedly confronted a teacher at a Yuma charter school and later claimed his medically disabled grandson was repeatedly “humiliated and bullied” by his teacher.
The Yuma Police Department completed its investigation into Shooter, R-Yuma, on April 18, and recommends charges of assault, disorderly conduct, second-degree criminal trespassing and disturbance of an educational institution, said Sgt. Leanne Worthen, spokeswoman for the Yuma Police Department.
Worthen said the investigator’s report has been sent to the Yuma City Prosecutor’s Office. City Prosecutor Jay Cairns was not immediately available for comment.
Shooter’s attorney, Edward Novak, could not be reached.
John Morales, executive director of the Yuma Private Industry Council that sponsors the charter school, denied accusations that a teacher had bullied Shooter’s grandson, and called the senator’s accusations completely out of character for the teacher, Danielle Munoz.
