Democratic activists from Gilbert’s Legislative District 12 last week called on Mayor John Lewis and other conservative town leaders to moderate their stances on issues like education and taxes.
A passionate group of about 20 Democrats aired their frustration on Thursday during a 90-minute meeting with Lewis and Councilmen Victor Petersen and Jared Taylor.
The three council members made a similar visit last month to the District 12 Republican committee. This time, instead of a crowd of mostly like-minded supporters, they faced pointed questions from residents on the other side of the political spectrum.
“I want to thank you for coming here into the lion’s den, because we are probably not ever going to agree on values,” Gilbert resident Laurie Bingenheimer said.
