Regarding “Rep. Franks violates conservative principles with anti-casino measure” (Opinions, April 20):
For Mayor Bob Barrett to say that Congressman Trent Franks has or would ever violate his conservative credentials is laughable. All folks need to do is look at his voting record. It most certainly speaks for itself.
Barrett completely misses the point, which isn’t surprising since he doesn’t live in Glendale. I do, and here’s why I oppose the casino project:
Tohono O’odham Nation’s massive casino is too close to residences and schools. It puts thousands of slot machines and table games into the middle of a neighborhood. It denies tens of millions of dollars of future development, construction and sales-tax revenues to our state and local community — forever. It does nothing to reimburse Glendale for the millions of dollars already spent to build the surrounding infrastructure that made the site suitable for development.
