The National Hockey League and a buyers group for the Phoenix Coyotes will meet with Glendale officials on Tuesday, a strong signal that a new purchase agreement has taken shape.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Anthony LeBlanc, a principal with Renaissance Sports & Entertainment, scheduled four meetings with Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers, other council members and the city manager for Tuesday.
The meetings indicate the league has settled on the Renaissance group to purchase the team as Councilman Gary Sherwood said league officials were expected to meet with Glendale only after they had selected a buyer.
The investment group is headed by Canadian businessmen LeBlanc and George Gosbee, and U.S. businessmen Avik Dey and Daryl Jones.
The Associated Press, citing two people familiar with the situation, reported Saturday that the NHL has approved the team’s sale to the Renaissance group. The Arizona Republic could not confirm that the sale had been approved.
The Coyotes scheduled a press conference at Jobing.com Arena for Tuesday afternoon, purportedly to discuss General Manager Don Maloney signing a long-term contract extension.
