APS further delays purchase of Four Corners units

Arizona Public Service Co. is putting off its purchase of two units at the Four Corners Power Plant for the foreseeable future in part because of potential deregulation of electric markets in the state.

The power company’s parent, Pinnacle West Capital Corp., said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that an extension on a decision to buy two units from Southern California Edison was on hold.

Part of the reason was continued negotiations with the coal supplier for Four Corners, which is ongoing, according to the filing.

The deregulation discussion set up by the Arizona Corporation Commission is another matter. Filings won’t be due until July and another round in August, with discussions planned following that.
