Gov. Jan Brewer, who in 2010 signed the controversial state immigration law known as Senate Bill 1070, appears to support the direction that the U.S. Senate is going with its sweeping border-security amendment. But as is often the case with the Arizona governor, her remarks are causing some controversy.
Brewer, a Republican, on Sunday appeared on Fox News Channel and said, “Well, I think that what we are seeing taking place in the Senate is a victory for Arizona.”
She added: “I am glad that they finally decided to talk about the border surge that we have called out for since 2010 asking them to take control of our border, operational control. And I think this is a great step forward in regards to that.”
But after national media outlets and others started reporting that she was in favor of the bill based on those remarks, she quickly took to Twitter to clarify her comments.
