Salt River Project has chosen the two potential routes for new high-voltage power lines that it expects to bring forward for state approval, though residents are rallying against both.
SRP presented the options at three public meetings this week. The routes (check out map and information in slideshow) would connect an existing substation in south Chandler to a new substation planned in the South Price Road Corridor.
The utility plans to bring at least two options to the Arizona Corporation Commission for approval, though only one would be chosen, SRP project manager Tom Novy said.
One route would take power lines north from the Schrader Substation along Arizona Avenue or the railroad tracks just east of that street, then west along Germann Road to the Price Road Corridor area.
The exact location of the future substation has not been determined, leaving multiple options for lines to travel south from Germann.
The second option would take lines south along Arizona Avenue or the tracks, west along Hunt Highway and north along Old Price Road.
