Chandler resident Mark Molzen is turning to the Internet to raise capital to help him publish a book on adoption — a subject he says too many people still don’t understand.
He’s written the book, titled “Chosen with Purpose,” but has turned to the website Kickstarter (bit.ly/16N2as3) to raise $4,400 that he will use to get the book self-published and translated for use on a Kindle reader. So far, 34 backers have contributed about half that amount, with 12 days to raise the rest as of today.
In an e-mail interview, Molzen, a 40-year-old spokesman for a national broadband company, said his book is a “story of adoption, identity and choices told through the eyes of someone adopted into the ‘United Nations of adoption.’ ”
That family would be the one in which he grew up, in which people of European, Native American, Asian and African descent living in one house.
“Despite millions of successful adoptions in the United States, there is still a stigma surrounding adoption both within the adoption community and outside of it,” Molzen said. “It is this stigma and a life-changing revelation about adoption that motivated me to write ‘Chosen with Purpose’ and to pursue self-publishing.”
