Chandler’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously opposed a request for the expansion of a behavioral-health group home in a residential neighborhood.
The commission voted 7-0 on Wednesday against Better Horizons Behavioral Health’s request for a permit to serve up to 10 residents at 2184 E. Firestone Dr.
City Council is scheduled to consider the request for final action June 27.
“I don’t have an issue with the business, but you should never know it’s there” when it is operating in a neighborhood, Commissioner Matthew Pridemore said after dozens of residents of the Cooper Commons neighborhood expressed opposition the home’s expansion and current operations.
“Right now, I would say to maintain it where it is and see if they can’t do better before I would … recommend approval for increasing numbers,” Pridemore said.
