Pinal County residents are becoming more aware of a rule change involving water and agricultural land.

Dick Powell, a Casa Grande city councilman and businessman, has arranged a meeting at City Hall on June 19, sponsored by the city and Farm Bureau, to present information.

Basically, the real estate market and owners determine the use of land, and that works pretty well. Agriculture still is an important part of the economy. Concern has been expressed that area water eventually could go for development in northern Pinal County. Area residents should find out more about this issue.

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors last week decided not to act on a proposal to use sheriff’s deputies for Justice Court security after hearing from the justices that they preferred lower-cost private security.

The decision was a good one. Higher security is needed for Pinal courts, and it is important to take on this new expense with as much efficiency as possible.
