After five years as a renter, Garmin announced it will build a 60,000 sq. foot facility of its own in the Chandler Corporate Center.
According to a press release, Garmin’s new building will focus on software engineering and add 141 new software and development jobs over the next three years. Construction is slated to begin later this summer, and the company expects to complete the facility in the first half of 2014.
The release states the company chose Chandler over locations in other states after a “highly competitive process.”
“Garmin is exactly the kind of quality, high-tech employer that we need in Arizona,” said Gov. Jan Brewer in the release. “I thank Garmin for its continued investment in our state and its ongoing role in helping drive the Arizona Comeback.”
Garmin produces Global Positioning Satellite, or GPS, devices, and has leased its current location in Chandler for the past five years.
