The Gila River Indian Community is planning another round of business development along its northern edge, just southwest of the convergence of Chandler, Tempe and Ahwatukee.
With 2,700 acres under its purview, the Wild Horse Pass Development Authority says it is making more land available. It especially would like to see restaurants in the expansion west of the Phoenix Premium Outlets, which is southwest of the Interstate 10/Loop 202 interchange.
No large retailers like those in the outlets would be considered in this round, officials say.
At a recent Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce public-policy speakers series, Kim Young, general manager of the development authority, and Alia Maisonet, the authority’s destination marketing manager, discussed plans. They believe that they have more flexibility than entities outside of the reservation.
