Mohave County legislators are furious about Gov. Jan Brewer’s tactics to get her budget and the expansion of the state’s Medicaid program passed.
“This didn’t go the way I hoped,” said Sen. Kelli Ward, R-Lake Havasu City, “We weren’t allowed to caucus, our questions weren’t answered and comments from the public weren’t allowed. To me it wasn’t democracy, it was tyranny. They hijacked the legislative process.”
“I thought it was appalling and disrespectful what the governor did,” said Rep. Sonny Borrelli, R-Lake Havasu City. “All the newspapers down there are calling it bipartisan. It wasn’t bipartisan. They wanted to manipulate the system. They cheated the system.”
