After more than five years of planning, the Rosemont Copper Mine is edging closer to a reality, the project senior geologist said recently.
“This winter, maybe around the first of the year, we should have a shovel in the ground,” Jeff Cornoyer told dozens of local contractors at the Southeastern Arizona Contractors Association monthly meeting, held at the Pueblo Del Sol Country Cub.
Once work begins, Rosemont Copper is set to spend $1.3 billion during the following two years to build the facility, which could translate to jobs and work for area contractors.
“We have $90 million worth of equipment on the ground in a secure, undisclosed place in Pima County,” Cornoyer said. “We’re ready to go.”
