TUCSON — On his 55th birthday, former Congressman Rick Renzi was found guilty of some charges and acquitted of others after a nearly month-long political corruption trial in U.S. District Court in Tucson.
The jury returned without advance notice, and its verdict was read before media arrived, but a court clerk and a prosecutor confirmed that Renzi had
been convicted of some counts. Details were not immediately available.
Judge David Bury released Renzi pending sentencing. Renzi declined comment as he left the court.
“We are pleased that the jury acquitted Mr. Renzi on 15 counts,” said Kelly Kramer, co-counsel for the defense. “We are disappointed by every guilty verdict. We will continue to fight these charges, including on appeal.”
