The building stands like so many others around Tempe, floors of empty apartment units rising high above Apache Boulevard.
The District on Apache is the latest competitor to enter the apartment fray as owners bet the newest, hottest amenities will be enough to attract student tenants for the fall semester.
The District on Apache, equipped with a lazy-river pool and virtual golf course, joins several apartments within one square block, a perpetual arms race of sorts with 922 Place, Vista del Sol and others vying to fill to capacity semester after semester.
Rosanna Dingeldein, an employee at the District, said the apartment complex has 73 percent of its rooms full.
