Gov. Jan Brewer wants to overhaul the state’s sales-tax collection system, which is described as the most complicated in the nation.
Municipal officials have expressed concern over the potential budget impact of the proposal, but many in the business community support the legislation. Some advocates say it could bring relief after years of grappling with a complicated system.
The proposal targets the state’s complex system where businesses are taxed on their revenues, at different rates by different entities, including the cities, counties and the state, according to the Associated Press. The tax on contractors and other business transactions is known as the transaction privilege tax.
We asked: Do you think the state should overall the system? If so, why? Do you support the governor’s plan?
