Like an ancient emperor surveying his domain, Chris Brady stood atop a mound in what will be, someday soon and once again, Riverview Park.
“I think this is going to be awesome,” Mesa’s city manager said.
But it’s more than just the park he was talking about, despite an enlarged and newly filled lake that’s almost big enough for boat races and the emerging outlines of other features aimed at making Riverview one of the region’s finest parks.
He was looking westward, toward the arched outlines of what is now, unmistakably, a state-of-the-art baseball stadium.
And beyond that, to 63,000 square feet of office and training space that will be the western headquarters of the Chicago Cubs.
