As a small town in Arizona experiences the benefits of solar power, the national program that inspired it takes on a new meaning amid the net metering debate.
The Payson Roundup reported recently how the Arizona Rooftop Solar Challenge has lead some communities to fully embrace solar panel technology. Two men – Alan Kline and Lew Levenson, in particular – are advocating the benefits of solar power in their community.
So What is The Arizona Rooftop Challenge?
Stemming from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Rooftop Solar Challenge, the Arizona Rooftop Solar Challenge is designed to “spur solar power deployment by streamlining permitting processes and cutting red tape.” The cities of Tucson, Flagstaff, as well as Smart Power and Arizona State University’s Global Institute of Sustainability are involved in the “cooperation between stakeholders to reduce the balance of system costs for photovoltaic system installations in residential and small commercial markets and streamline permitting, interconnection, financing, planning, and zoning processes for municipalities across the state,” according to the Global Institute of Sustainability website.
