A representative says the Chinese tour operator and Las Vegas businessman who built the Grand Canyon Skywalk attraction in northwestern Arizona has died in Los Angeles, AP reported.
A Grand Canyon Skywalk Development spokesman in Phoenix said Friday that David Jin died Thursday at UCLA Medical Center after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 51.
Jin invested $30 million to build the horseshoe-shaped tourist attraction that juts over the edge of the sheer limestone walls of the Grand Canyon on the Hualapai reservation in Arizona.
It opened in 2007, offering visitors a view through a glass-bottomed walkway some 4,000 feet down to the Colorado River.
Jin expected to split ticket revenues with the tribe, but the two sides have fought legal battles over management fees and an unfinished visitor center.
