Surprise hires new city attorney

Surprise City Council has tapped interim City Attorney Misty Leslie to fill the position permanently.

The Tuesday council vote was unanimous.

Leslie, has worked as an attorney for Surprise since 2007. She filled in as the city’s chief legal adviser since city officials terminated Michael Bailey’s contract in March.

Bailey had been the City Attorney since 2006.

Leslie will be paid $162,000 annually, according to her city contract, which ends June 30, 2017.

Bailey was paid $160,269 during his last year of work.
