Surprise watching out for business community

Surprise officials are expected to submit a proposal to the city council before August for a policy designed to ensure consideration for local companies seeking to land business with the municipality.

“The goal is to allow local businesses to compete better for city business and have a positive impact on the health and welfare of the local business community,” Assistant City Manager Jeff Mihelich told the council during its June 4 work session at City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

The city also would keep more local tax dollars at home, the assistant city manager stated.

Mihelich and other officials were asked by the council last year to come up with a plan to consider local businesses for city contracts that would keep out-of-town firms in the playing field as well.
