A 17-year-old Phoenix restaurant has been told to move to make way for a parking lot.

Coup Des Tartes at 4626 N. 16th St. announced today it has until Jan. 31 of next year to vacate its existing location because the new landowner wishes to use the land as a parking lot.

The Van Tuyl Group, which owns several auto dealerships in the area, purchased the land out of foreclosure last month, said Coup Des Tartes owner Ron Pacioni.

“A week later, they came to us and said we can give you 90 days to get out,” he said. After Pacioni objected to such a short time frame, the company came back and offered an additional three months.

“I was really hoping they’d honor the remaining seven years of my lease, although they’re not legally binded to it,” Pacioni said. “It would have been the right thing to do.”
