Babeu pledges to fill out term

PPaul Babeuaul Babeu says he isn’t running for Congress again — at least not during his current term as sheriff of Pinal County.

Late Monday, Babeu told Capitol Media Services he wasn’t entering the District 1 or District 4 House races. A poll conducted by MBQF Consulting had Babeu as the early Republican favorite in District 1, well ahead of other potential candidates House Speaker Andy Tobin, businessman Gaither Martin and District 11 Rep. Adam Kwasman.

Babeu said via Facebook on Monday night that he was going to serve out the remainder of his four-year term as sheriff, no matter what.

“I want to make it clear to everyone that I have made a commitment . . . a promise to the people of my county to serve as their sheriff for the next four years,” he said. “I shall honor my commitment and promise.”
