Thomas Collins, the attorney who has provided legal advice to the Citizens Clean Elections Commission for the past two and a half years, will take over the agency as its new executive director.

CCEThe commission offered Collins the job on July 15, and Collins accepted several days later. He will begin the job on Aug. 5.

Collins said the job is a “unique opportunity” that he looks forward to.

“The commissioners and the commission staff are a great group of folks and they’re doing something that I think has real value for the state,” Collins said. “I hope to pick up on where Todd (Lang, the former executive director) left off and to work with the commission to ensure that the Clean Elections Act continues to serve the purposes for which it was enacted.”

Collins became the commission’s legal counsel in December 2010. CCEC Chairman Louis Hoffman said Collins’ familiarity with the Clean Elections system and his experience providing legal advice to the commission made him an ideal candidate for the position.
