It has been on the wish list since Ronald Reagan was president. As planning and debate stretched on and on, congestion increased on Interstate 10. Uncertainty dogged people living, working and worshiping along the proposed route.
And while an ongoing environmental review has transportation officials saying construction could start by 2015 with federal approval and funding … well, skepticism is understandable.
So, the announcement this week that a consortium of private companies wants to take on the task of getting the freeway built is welcome news. It doesn’t mean asphalt will be poured tomorrow, but it increases hope that construction will begin sooner rather than later.
