Fancy a gentle burro living in your backyard? Besides being a companion animal, it might be amenable to giving rides to your kids.
Wildhorse Ranch Rescue in Gilbert rescued 23 burros recently and is seeking the public’s help with their upkeep. The rescue is also looking for suitable homes for the animals, with two already adopted but 21 still needing homes.
“It’s crazy. It’s more than what we’re used to,” said Kim Meagher, the rescue’s founder.
Meagher said the animals are young, and among them are four pregnant mares.
“They are just really kind. Even though they are wild, they are really kind. They are not flighty like horses are. Their temperament is very mild, and they’re great companions for horses or goats,” Meagher said.
