Goldwater says it won’t try to block Coyotes deal

The Goldwater Institute, which has monitored Glendale’s efforts to secure a hockey deal, will take a pass on any legal action concerning the latest agreement, said Lucy Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the Phoenix-based conservative advocacy organization.

“Based on the information available to us at this time, we do not believe that the Glendale arena-management deal would be held unconstitutional,” the institute said in a statement issued by Caldwell on Thursday.

The Glendale City Council approved a 15-year, $225 million agreement on July 2 to pay the prospective new owners of the Phoenix Coyotes to manage Jobing.com Arena, which is owned by the city. City officials agreed to pay the owners group, IceArizona, $15 million a year.
