I would like to correct some misinformation in a recently published letter to the editor from Cave Creek resident Jacky Davis, who called the Cave Creek Town Council’s decision to oust Town Manager Usama Abujbarah “breathtakingly foolish and shortsighted.”
Abujbarah had been town manager of Cave Creek for 14 years, not 17. He was employed by Cave Creek in another capacity for three years. According to the International City/County Management Association, the average job span for a town manager is five years — Abujbarah enjoyed nine additional years.
Also, the contract he signed did not guarantee his job until retirement. Instead, paragraph 3.1a states: “Employee is employed at the will of Employer.”
Nowhere in Mr. Abujbarah’s contract does it mandate any termination hearing. However, Davis may remember a June council meeting she attended and spoke at, where Abujbarah refused to make any statements regarding his employment when given multiple chances to do so.
