A proposed 165-foot high- rise apartment building and a 110-foot hotel could become two of Casa Grande’s tallest buildings if city officials over- ride a staff recommendation and approve changes for 34 acres behind the former Out- lets at Casa Grande.
City Planning and Development staffers have recommended denial of the plan.
At its next meeting, the Planning and Zoning Com- mission will vote either to follow the staff recommendation or forward the plan to the city council with a favorable recommendation.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Thursday in the council chambers at City Hall, 510 E. Florence Blvd. It’s open to the public.
The proposed plan for Station II, off Jimmie Kerr Boulevard, seeks to change the land use from commerce and business to major commercial residential and retail.
AZ Outlet Investment, which also owns the former outlet center now known as Home Center Factory Direct, wants to expand the types of uses allowed at the site, modify development standards, amend architectural elements and change the landscaping requirements.
As well as a hotel and apartment building, the site plan calls for a six-level parking garage, four-story anchor store, single retail store and additional buildings with heights up to 75 feet. But several parts of the plan do not meet city code and the building types are not compatible with the surrounding area, according to staff reports.
