The Scottsdale Planning Commission on has endorsed a plan to replace a shopping center that resembles an Italian village with condominiums.
The panel recommended city council approval of a non-major General Plan amendment and rezoning for the Residences at the Borgata, to replace the Borgata of Scottsdale, 6166 N. Scottsdale Road.
The vote was unanimous, with Vice Chairman Ed Grant absent and Commissioner Michael Edwards abstaining because his architecture firm, Tempe-based Davis, is designing the project.
Most stores already have vacated the 32-year-old center. Scottsdale-based AV Homes Inc. plans to build the $50 million condominium complex, and the remaining businesses are relocating to space elsewhere in the city, said John Berry, a zoning attorney representing the developer.
