Capitol News: Tobin might be in, Begay might be out

arizona-capitol-buildingThe Yellow Sheet Report (YS) says this afternoon a source has told it House Speaker Andy Tobin is weighing a possible run for the U.S. House in CD 1. He could declare his intentions by the end of this month or early in September, the source said.

Tobin actually resides in CD4, but YS says he believes Gosar is doing a good job and he’s not looking to challenge an incumbent party mate.

The only announced Republic for CD1 is State Representative Adam Kwasman.

In another political development today, Arizona Capitol Times reports the Apache County Attorney’s Office will seek to remove Sen. Carlyle Begay from office unless the freshly sworn-in lawmaker can present evidence proving his proper residency is within the county, not the town of Gilbert.

Documentation received by the attorney’s office shows Begay has been a resident — and claimed residency — in Gilbert for the past seven years.

In a letter sent to Begay on Aug. 8, Deputy Apache County Attorney Joseph Young wrote that his office must seek the senator’s removal from office unless Begay can provide evidence to the contrary.
