Cave Creek publisher pays $24,000 to satisfy judgment

The publisher of the Sonoran News newspaper in Cave Creek has paid off a judgment from a court case that had been working its way through the system for a number of years.

Don Sorchych, who is also the editor of the newspaper, was scheduled to participate in a debtor’s exam Aug. 9 in which he would have been expected to answer questions about his assets, properties, employer, salary and other business interests that would have led to payment of the fees.

Based on the results of the hearing, Jack Wilenchik, a lawyer for the plaintiff, FDS Finance LLC, could have immediately filed to seize Sorchych’s assets or garnishee his wages.

However, Sorchych paid the fines, which amounted to about $24,000, on Aug. 6, Wilenchik said.
