County to seek attorney’s help in repealing Ariz. property tax law

A Bullhead City attorney will be asked to assist Mohave County in the state legislature to repeal a law that requires the county to give tax breaks to property owners.

The supervisors will look to retain Bullhead City attorney Paul Lenkowsky to assist the county in resolving the U.S. vs. Aria case and assist in the county’s efforts to repeal state House bill HB-2178 that was passed in April 2012.

The supervisors at the last board meeting voted to direct staff to look into retaining Lenkowsky and to acknowledge Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne’s July 23 opinion on the law.

Horne ruled that HB-2178 is unconstitutional and invalid because it improperly gives tax benefits to a handful of Golden Shores property owners without giving the same benefits to other property owners in a similar circumstance.
