Former President George W. Bush undergoes heart stent procedure for blockage

TEXAS (WABC) — ABC News White House correspondant Ann Compton says former President President George W. Bush underwent heart surgery Tuesday morning.

According to Compton, a blockage was discovered in an artery in President Bush’s heart during his annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas Monday.

At the recommendation of his doctors, President Bush agreed to have a stent placed to open the blockage.

The procedure was performed successfully, without complication, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.

Compton reports that President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home Wednesday and resume his normal schedule on Thursday.

She says he is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him, and he thanked his family, friends and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes.

The former commander in chief also encourages everyone to get regular check-ups.
