Foul-up leaves Gilbert off online list of safest cities

Gilbert recently was left off a business website’s list of safest cities in the U.S. after the Arizona Department of Public Safety apparently failed to deliver the town’s 2012 crime statistics to the FBI on time, officials say.

Business Insider in July revealed its latest rankings of the nation’s safest communities, a list that included Gilbert at No. 5 in 2011. This year, however, Gilbert dropped completely out of the rankings, while Scottsdale and Chandler both made the top 10.

Perplexed, town officials investigated and found that Gilbert’s crime statistics never made it into the FBI’s preliminary annual report, which forms the basis for the Business Insider rankings.
