Looking not only to next year but several decades into the future, the Gilbert Town Council spent much of its three-day annual planning summit last week discussing how to tackle long-range issues like aging infrastructure, debt financing and the role of federal money.
Amid a whirlwind of information presented during the 12-hour retreat over three days at Town Hall, council members discussed several high-level policy matters but in some cases failed to find a resolution.
The council was unable to agree on a policy for pursuing federal grants, for example, and instead delegated the issue to an informal subcommittee for further study. When asked about the potential of calling a bond election in 2014, council members did not take a clear position but appeared lukewarm to the idea.
