Paul Petersen, who has worked more than seven years in the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office as the assessor’s representative and public information officer, has been named as the new Maricopa County Assessor.
Petersen, a licensed attorney and court interpreter, replaces former assessor Keith Russell, who resigned the position in June to become a justice of the peace in east Mesa.
Petersen, 38, was unanimously appointed by the five-member board of supervisors and will face election in 2014 to serve the remaining years of Russell’s term. The supervisors noted Petersen’s experience in the assessor’s office — and the challenges he faces. Petersen is a fourth generation Arizonan.
