Phoenix incumbents’ big night: DiCiccio, Waring celebrate unofficial returns; runoff in Surprise

Phoenix voters appear to have re-elected incumbent City Councilmen Sal DiCiccio and Jim Waring, indicating the left-leaning city government will retain its outspoken minority of fiscal conservatives.

Unofficial returns from Tuesday’s primary election showed both councilmen with comfortable leads over their more centrist opponents.

November runoff contests are likely in Districts 4 and 8 because no candidate was expected to receive more than 50 percent of the vote. The city will announce official results later in the week.

Surprise voters elected two city council members, but a third race may be headed to a runoff, according to early election results Tuesday.

Incumbent Skip Hall beat political newcomer Cammie Marceaux in District 5, which includes the area around City Hall and Surprise Stadium.
