Peoria officials and residents worry two proposed billboards near the city’s border with Glendale will be a distracting eyesore and could pave the way for more billboards .
While the signs would be near the freeway, the area is now mostly residential and has no billboards, opponents say.
In Glendale, where officials will decide the fate of the planned signs near Loop 101 and Bell Road, opinions are mixed. While neighbors and a councilman oppose them, the mayor said he would consider the idea.
A local billboard company wants to put up two 85-feet high poster billboards north of Bell on the western side of the freeway, east of New River. The land for the project was annexed by Glendale in a 2007 land swap with Peoria.
