A property owner proposing an amendment to the Sonoqui Creek Village portion of Queen Creek’s General Plan is facing significant opposition by 102 residents who have signed a petition objecting to a request to increase the number of homes per acre.
The petition is supported by six pages of comments, including assertions that the change could threaten their rural quality of life, lower property values, increase traffic and block their views of the San Tan Mountains.
The parcel’s owner is proposing to amend the approved residential density from “very low,” or as many as one home per acre, to “low,” or as many as two homes per acre. Current zoning is single-family residential. If the amendment is approved, the owner would subsequently have to request a change in zoning to match the new density.
