The chairman of the Apache County Board of Supervisors told county attorneys they shouldn’t start a legal battle over Sen. Carlyle Begay’s qualifications to hold office.
Rep. Albert Hale, D-St. Michaels, has asked the Apache County Attorney’s Office to seek to remove Begay, D-Ganado, claiming that the senator doesn’t meet the residency requirements to hold office at the Legislature.
Hale was one of three nominees chosen to fill the vacant Legislative District 7 Senate seat vacated by former Sen. Jack Jackson, Jr., but was passed over by the Board of Supervisors in favor of Begay, who was sworn into office in August.
