Apache Junction seeks to redevelop downtown corridor

The city of Apache Junction is asking for public input that could help to redevelop and revitalize the downtown corridor faster.

The city will be submitting later this year an application for a $400,000 grant to the Environmental Protection Agency for funds to perform a community-wide assessment of brownfields sites within the downtown area.

While any sites can be suggested during the public input process, a priority will be on the downtown Apache Trail corridor, Roger Hacker from the city’s revenue resource program said in an e-mailed response to questions last week.

They include vacant and commercial properties along Apache Trail and Old West Highway, according to a staff-generated project description on the Resource Development Division page of the city’s website, www.ajcity.net.
