GOP consultant Alan Heywood today went public with a campaign aimed at persuading Secretary of State Ken Bennett to run for Corporation Commission instead of governor, but Bennett said there’s no chance that will happen, and he’s committed to a gubernatorial bid.
Heywood said Bennett “has the experience and wisdom” that makes him the ideal fit for the Corporation Commission. “We need to have some smart, bright people on the Corporation Commission
Bennett quickly rejected the request on Twitter and directed people to visit his website instead of Heywood’s.
An ally of Bennett’s called Heywood’s actions “a backhanded effort to undermine” the gubernatorial candidate seated in the early pole position. “It is what it is – a poorly crafted effort to move the leading contender out of the Republican primary.
