The City of Mesa recently recognized several city property owners for exceeding the design and aesthetic standards in their respective neighborhoods.

The owners, who received their recognition at the Sept. 23 Mesa City Council Meeting, earned the kudos for possessing either a business or home that stood out in their community. Among the winners were Ruben and Maricela Alvarez, Tyler and Kristen Robinson and Steve and Kristy Beck for the Backyard Taco Shop located at 1524 E. University Drive. The city recognized them for turning a deteriorating and problem property into a safe gathering place in the neighborhood.

The residential honorees were David and Jessica Hawks, Nazario and Antonieta Mendez and Mark and Donna Rodocker, who were credited for their landscaping skills and ability to maintain their respective homes.

The owners of the four properties receive a certificate and an Extraordinary Properties sign to display in their yards for three months, as well as a nomination for the “Mayor’s Award for Building a Better Mesa.”
