Hualapai court upholds recall of tribal lawmakers

recallA Hualapai (WAHL’-uh-peye) tribal judge has upheld the recall of two lawmakers who had been critical of the Grand Canyon Skywalk developer, AP reports.

Tribal Council members Candida Hunter and Charlie Vaughn were ousted in March. Their terms had been set to expire in June.

The two challenged the decision by voters, but Judge Lawrence King upheld the recall this week.

Vaughn has said that the recall of was an effort to remove objectivity from the council.

The vacancies will be filled through a special election. Tribal spokesman Dave Cieslak said Thursday that a date hasn’t been set.

The tribe and Las Vegas businessman David Jin had been in a contract dispute over the Skywalk. Jin died earlier this year but his family is following through with legal action.
