Federal housing aid has helped an estimated 350,000 or more Arizona families get more affordable monthly payments and other modifications to make it possible for them to keep their homes.
Federal housing aid also has helped almost 15 percent of metro Phoenix homeowners avoid foreclosure, according to the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
The number of Arizonans helped by Making Home Affordable programs, the national mortgage settlement and with neighborhood housing stabilization funds comes from information released by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development last week.
“The federal programs not only provided direct relief to distressed borrowers in Arizona,” said Val Iverson, executive director of the Arizona Housing Alliance. “They also indirectly strengthened the industry to better respond to distressed-borrower issues.”
