The Mohave County Board of Supervisors is considering locking horns with the federal government again on three separate items at Monday’s meeting – opposing a private land swap between the BLM and a mining company, signing on to a movement to return control of federal public lands to the state, and opposing the Mexican gray wolf re-introduction study.
The Board meets at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the County Administration Building, 700 Beale Street.
District 3 Supervisor Buster Johnson is asking the Board to consider opposing a land swap between the Bureau of Land Management and the mining company ASARCO. The company wants to swap 7,304 acres of land in Mohave and Pinal counties for 10,976 acres of BLM land in Pinal County near Casa Grande.
More than 6,000 acres of private land in Mohave County would be removed from the county’s tax rolls if the swap is approved.
